Trango Mantis Handle

Postby granite_grrl » Tue Jan 17, 2006 8:05 am

I'm going to throw this out for my friend Brent for a little publicity. He's been working on these handles for the past while, made his third set just this last weekend. His first two he had to send off for the Ouray Ice fest, but I hope to get to see this current set this week.

And pinky rests on his old DMM Flies:

Anyway, I've been impressed with his inovations and wanted to share with you all!

Just a suggestion... if that is in fact electrical tape.... try cork bicycle grip tape- might be a little warmer and certainly more asthetic.

They do look cool, anf functional.

Nope, not electrical tape, some sort of rubber tape.

I'm pretty sure butyl rubber tape is electrical tape. Just a little thicker than what common electrical tape is.

I wasn't knocking the grips at all... not at all- like I said before- just a suggestion. Tennis racquet grip tape might be sweet also.

that welded on head looks wicked. What a super idea.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Another update to Brent's work. He has now made a handle out of carbon fiber:

Finally got a good look at them last week at the climbing gym. They pretty darn sweet, and he's going to try making another mold to try to try to make them look prettier. Just too bad that the carbon fiber has to be covered with rubber.

Looks like the weather is going to cool down next week so hopefully we'll be able to head out and I'll see how his tools swing with all these modifications.

Experimenting is cool.
